HYBRID BOARDS FROM MOONCHILD

09 Will Moonwalkers fit your powder board? (Printable template)

Download & print template

One of the most common questions we get is:
“Will Moonwalkers fit my favorite powder board?”

Moonwalkers are traction pads that convert into snowshoes, letting you hike further and surf powder without bindings.

To make it easy, we prepared a printable PDF template that you can download and test directly on your board. With this template, you’ll know exactly how Moonwalkers will fit before ordering.

How to Use the Template

The template is split into two A4 files (top and bottom). Here’s how to use it:

  1. Print both halves in landscape orientation at full scale (100%).

  2. Check the scale using a ruler or measuring tape. If the measurement on the template doesn’t match, reprint at 100%.

  3. Cut out the template and the marked holes (grey/black areas).

    • These holes represent the mounting points for Spark R&D Solid Pucks, standard snowboard inserts, or eyebolts for locking the pad and leash attachment.

  4. Tape the two halves together to create the full-size template.

  5. Place your boot on the template to check its position and spacing in walking mode. This way, you can also confirm that your boot size works comfortably with Moonwalkers.

Mounting Options

The template includes two designations:

  • A – For mounting with Spark R&D Solid Pucks (and Spark R&D or similar splitboard bindings - quick shift).

  • B – For mounting with the classic snowboard insert pattern (if you will ride with standard snowboard bindings)

Both options can be rotated 180° depending on your board’s stance and setback:

  • More setback = better for powsurfing.

  • Turned around = useful if your board already has a lot of setback and a short tail, and you can’t mount otherwise.

This flexibility lets you adapt Moonwalkers to fit your board and riding style.

A1: template position and orientation for park R&D Solid Pucks mounting. The holes inside the white rectangle mark the screw positions for mounting solid pucks and for attaching eyebolt.

B1: template position and orientation for standard insert mounting. The holes inside the white rectangle mark the screw positions for mounting and for attaching eyebolt.

A2: Template position and orientation for Spark R&D Solid Pucks mounting if your board has a large setback stance and the pads don’t fit the shape as in A1. The holes inside the white rectangle mark the screw positions for mounting solid pucks and attaching the eyebolt.

B2: Template position and orientation for standard insert mounting if your board has a large setback stance and the pads don’t fit the shape as in B1. The holes inside the white rectangle indicate the screw positions for mounting and for attaching the eyebolt.

Note: The outer shape of the template must always fit inside your snowboard’s base contour to ensure correct placement.

Powsurfing Channel Boards vs. Flat Base

A lot of powsurf boards include channels on the base, designed to help with control in shallower or tracked-out snow.

But don’t worry if your board doesn’t have them:

  • Flat-base powsurfs ride perfectly in deep powder—at least 10 cm (4 inches) for low-angle slopes and 20 cm (8 inches) for steeper terrain.

  • In tracked-out terrain, you can quickly switch pads for bindings.

  • Flat boards are also easier to wax and perform really well on smaller, mellow hills.

Next Level: Pair with the [BLVCKBIRD]

If you want to take your powsurfing to the next level, pair your Moonwalkers with the [Blvckbird board].

Why the [Blvckbird] is a perfect match:

  • Designed with over 10 years of shaping experience—we’ve tested and refined more than 100 different shapes, and put all that knowledge into designing the ultimate powder board.

  • Built to be maneuverable and floaty in deep snow with or without bindings. With bindings, it transforms into a carving machine on groomers and slopes.

  • The setback stance options align perfectly with Moonwalkers, giving you the versatility to ride open bowls, tight trees, or playful low-angle pow fields.

  • Engineered for both untouched powder and tracked-out terrain, making it a true backcountry all-rounder.

Together, Moonwalkers + Blackbird unlock maximum freedom: hike further, ride deeper, and switch seamlessly between powsurfing and snowboarding.
